Shuna

www.onecoldhand.com(www.

Large at ourselves, Chinese

The following is how an ABC(American born Chinese) describes his parents, which are also what Americans cannot understand about us Chinese. Let's largh at ourselves.

15. You only make long distance calls after 7pm.
16. You prefer your shrimp with the heads and legs still attached – it means they're fresh.
17. You never call your parents just to say hi.
18. If you don't live at home, when your parents call, they'll ask if you've eaten, even if it's midnight.
19. Your parents tell you to boil herbs and stay inside when you get sick. They also tell you not to eat fried foods or baked foods because they're heaty (yeet hay in Cantonese).

dancer illusion

http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,22492511-5005375,00.html?from=mostpopThe Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa. Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe
RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking
The most fun part is to do this together with several other people. You won't agree with each other. I saw the dancer revolve clockwise at first. Then I stared at her for some time and made her change direction successfully. Actually the dancer never changes the way she moves, the only thing changes is your illusion.

My students gave me flower today.

My students gave me flowers today to thank my work for the whole semester. I held an extra office hour today for their final. When I was surrounded by these questioners a librarian came up to me and gave me this bunch of flowers with a card attatched to it. They are so sweet and so good at surprising people. :)

This week, fight for game theory and IO finals. Go hoos, Go!
